Access to Healthcare

Mission & Vision

Our action team mission is to support just and equitable access to healthcare. We envision a strong community with equitable access to healthcare, collective responsibility of our health, and a robust network of advocates.

Our Work

Our work is currently centered around the pilot programs of Medicaid Assisters & Advocates and Rural Health Outreach.

Medicaid Assisters & Advocates

This Medicaid Assister program was born out of the Move2Health Equity Coalition’s Access to Healthcare action team. This action team meets monthly on the 3rd Thursday of the month over Zoom and at the UVA Center for Community Partnerships. Meetings are not mandatory for the Medicaid Assister & Advocate program, but all volunteers and community members are welcome to join the meetings as a touchpoint. To join the email list, please reach out to M2HEquity@gmail.com or follow this link for the calendar invite.

Our program volunteers are made up of Medicaid Assisters & Medicaid Advocates. These roles are different in their ability to complete the Medicaid application process. Advocates are a more accessible role with ~4 hours of training from the Virginia Healthcare Foundation. Assisters require a commitment to the Virginia Marketplace online training of ~10-12 hours. If you are interested in the online Assister training, please reach out to M2HEquity@gmail.com and you will be added to the Medicaid Assister list.

Rural Health Outreach

Rural health outreach is a program built on the partnerships of Move2Health Equity, the Blue Ridge Health District, the Charlottesville Free Clinic, and the UVA Emergency Department’s Global Health Team. This program is building out regular touch points in rural areas in Fluvanna county and will have updates at the monthly Move2Health Equity Coalition meetings and the Access to Healthcare meetings. If you are interested in being part of the outreach team, please fill out the contact form or email M2HEquity@gmail.com.
