CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Two Charlottesville organizations are trying to increase access to health care.

Saturday, April 27, the Charlottesville Area Alliance and Move2Health Equity hosted a ‘one stop shop’ for people over 50 to learn all about healthy aging tips.

“There’s so much information out there,” Move2Health Coalition Co-Chair Jacklene Martin said, “Educating people is always a good thing, and we feel like this is a really good way to do it.”

Martin is also Director of Community Partnerships and Health Equity for UVA Health.

“We have everyone from UVA health and Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital, we have home care organizations, personal care support, social support,” Martin said, “We tried to get everything you need to age healthy together.”

Martin said the goal of the pop-up is to create new connections between these health organizations and the communities they serve.

“It’s all about building relationships and for them to have a chance to be out here and this type of environment, first of all, to meet with some of the other organizations, but also to be here to meet people face to face is really important,” Martin said.

Martin says the plan is for the pop-up to grow as time goes on with more organizations joining the process.

“We really are hoping to move the one stop shop for 50-plus to a couple rural locations, and another one here in the city over the next year,” Martin said.
